According to a report from the Center for Immigration Studies based on 2008 Census Bureau Data, the number of illegal immigrants has declined by 11%.
“Monthly data collected by the Census Bureau through May 2008 shows a significant decline in the number of less-educated, young Hispanic immigrants in the country.”
What defines “less-educated”? Could the free education that we are providing illegal immigrants actually count as making them more educated? Are they leaving or are they just studying themselves out of the “less-educated” class?
The report points to the tougher law enforcement strategies as a source for the decline. I agree, but I am not quite sure what declined. Since the Census Bureau collects data on a volunteer basis, how can we trust the results? With tougher law enforcement, could it be that illegal immigrants are not so cavalier about announcing their illegal status?
Just because 11% less people admitted to being an illegal immigrant does not mean that the number of illegal immigrants has declined at all.
